We’ve just like to show our support to Solsis’ Sales Manager Steve Chambers who has taken it upon himself to walk the Great Wall of China on Saturday to raise £6K for the Institute of Cancer Research UK.

Cancer is the UK’s number one killer responsible for one in four of all deaths in the UK. As a result of so many people being exposed to Cancer, Steve and his walking partner in crime Nathan Court are doing their bit to raise vital funds to assist the Institute of Cancer Research UK carrying out pioneering research to reach it’s ultimate goal – that people can live their lives free from the fear of Cancer as a life-threatening disease.

Their challenge is to trek the Great Wall of China over 9 days starting on Saturday 8th October 2011. Preparations have been already well underway to enable two mid-thirty year old men to achieve this aim – you can see lots of information on the challenge, more about us and our preperations on their blog.

If you would like to make a last minute donation towards their target please visit their donation page. Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Please help them acheive their goal in making a real difference to so many peoples lives in the UK.

Good luck guys, and come back to Solsis in one piece!

Cloud computing/server free offices have been very popular for businesses within London over the past 4 years, so much so that the IT industry are expecting that 90% of London SME’s will be in the cloud by 2015 and some major server manufacturers have already stopped building SME servers.   However due to broadband limitations Cloud has not been a viable option for most SME’s in Berkshire, without spending a fortune on leased lines…

Thankfully however, this has now changed as BT Infinity becomes available for businesses in our area for the first time this month. This will finally give SME’s the opportunity to investigate moving to a server free environment.

Why most SME’s are moving to a cloud network rather than buying a new server:

  • Save 60% of the cost of buying a new server.
  • Never worry about any server downtime or emergency upgrades ever again.
  • Unlimited access to data.
  • Never purchase a new server again (average costs for a single server for SME’s within the UK is £8-£10K per server).
  • Complete disaster recovery solution included, you don’t need to worry about server anti-virus/spam, data encryption or backups again.

As IT becomes an increasingly important tool for businesses of all sizes, it is crucial that any IT spend adds real value to your business, your employees and ultimately, to your bottom line. This whitepaper outlines considerations when formulating your IT strategy – turning your IT into a strategic asset and business enabler – and goes on to describe some of the main IT solutions that can add value to your business today such as Cloud Computing, Virtualisation, VoIP and Mobile Computing as well as how to protect your business by producing an effective Disaster Recovery Plan, and finally how to effectively support your IT infrastructure.

IT All Starts With an IT Strategy

When considering the IT solutions and services that can add value to your business, you should begin by defining the overall business objectives of your IT requirements. Scalability is a key consideration, there is no sense in simply assessing what you currently need today – how about what you will need in 2 years, or even in 5 years? Your IT strategy should look at your long term business plans and subsequent IT requirements, so you incorporate systems that can, for example, scale for business growth – whether that is the number of employees you anticipate needing, or the number of office locations you may have.
